I don't know how I happened upon these, but they are hilarious. Check out NatalieDee for some incredibly cute and funny things.

Ordered a new hard drive for my poor lap top yesterday, so as soon as it's fixed I'll feel whole again, hopefully :) I also bought some shelves and I'm getting to work organizing my Blue Carrot office. Trying to get back into it all... I guess I took a little break (i.e. I got lazy), but I think I'm back on track. While you wait patiently for Blue Carrot Shop goodies, take a look at the awesome art by Katherine Streeter, like the birds above. It breaks my heart a little how wonderful they are...

It was a very busy weekend, with an auction, wine-tasting, swap meet and even a little mini-crisis thrown in... The auction was at this beautiful 11,000 sq ft manse (the home sold for a paltry $700,000) on 73 acres. I basically went to satisfy my curiousity and the inside of the house certainly made me swoon. Also tugging at my heartstrings was an adorable Boston Terrier named Amelia. She sat in front of us at the auction, and I definitely fell in love. Look at her. How could I not?
Afterwards, I went to a wine tasting and got appropriately drunk. For someone who never drinks and didn't eat anything all day, ten 'tastes' of wine are MORE than enough to put me down for the night...
The mini-crisis came in when my man's truck brakes failed and he had to make an emergency ditch into someone's yard. Luckily no one was hurt and he got a great story from the incident.
I hate to admit that I've been a bit lazy on getting the shop up an running... Hopefully I'll find my motivation wherever I last left it, and get the shop up soon. Don't lose faith!

We bought a box of Edison Diamond discs, and finally played our phonograph this past weekend. It is wonderful. Simply wonderful. We already have a favorite (a violin solo) and it's been played many, many times. We're on the lookout for some more classical music and I can't wait until Christmas so I can play carols. Sometimes, I think I was born in the wrong century...

Went to a really neat auction last night, filled with wonderful treasures. We went specifically for Grandma, an amazing (photos do NOT do her justice) vintage fortune telling machine, but there were hundreds of old carnival items there — I fell in love with a Euclid Beach claw machine in particular, but (as expected) everything sold for an astronomical price. Grandma alone brought $18,000 (!).
While our lack of fortune prevented us from taking home the fortune teller, we managed to get quite the deal on a early 1900s Edison Diamond Disc Phonograph. We haven't gotten any records yet, but the machine looks right at home in our living room and I'm sure it sounds just as beautiful.
We also got to witness an auctioneer actually PAY someone a dollar out of his own wallet to take some old clothes of their hands — now THAT's a deal.

Gardening update: About half of our plants are thriving (that would be the poppies, which are apparently difficult to grow, but don't tell them that) and the other half is unfortunately looking a little grim. I think we've learned some lessons, however, and next year I'm planning on planting poppies exclusively. The little guys seem to like us, and the feeling is mutual. Our roses are making quite the comeback too, perhaps they can stay. Either way, I'm looking forward to a magical poppy field next year :)
